The Overflow Is Our Purpose

The law is constantly growing and evolving. Every week brings new judgments, legislation, and legal developments. The cup keeps filling. The overflowing cup is a reminder that the law exceeds the capacity of any one person to know it all.

It All Flows from the Source

The Constitution is the foundation from which all law flows. It establishes the values that guide our democracy and provides the framework for how South Africa is governed.

Chapter 7 entrusts municipalities with the responsibility of governing local communities and delivering essential services, while section 235 recognises the principle of cultural self-determination within our constitutional order.

And yet, when we look at the rise of Homeowners’ Associations, we see communities already stepping into a self- regulating role—even though Chapter 7 reserves that authority for municipalities.

From Law to Life

The Constitution is the supreme law of South Africa. From it flows national and provincial legislation, as well as municipal by-laws.

Together, these layers of law pour into the “cup of life,” shaping how we live, work, and interact in society.

To live within the law is to drink from this cup. Sometimes it feels full, sometimes it overflows, but it is always there guiding our rights, our responsibilities, and the choices we make every day.

The law is not separate from life. It flows into it.

Swept Under the Carpet

The law is always there.
Guiding us.
Protecting us.
Yet, too often,
it is ignored.
Legal obligations are swept under the carpet,
day after day,
year after year.
Until one day,
the carpet rises.
And suddenly,
we stumble over
what we chose not to address
not because it was hidden,
but because it was always there,
waiting.
May we remember
to put right today’s delays,
before they become tomorrow’s burdens.
For when we honour the law,
not only in word but in action,
our path is smoother,
our communities are stronger,
and we all live
in greater harmony.

Different Perspectives

The same picture can hold different meanings depending on who is looking at it. Through art and reflection, we share different perspectives on the same piece.

Pizza

Resolving conflict often starts when people look beyond their own slice and understand how each piece fits within the whole.

Savor the cheesy moments—they bring joy. Don’t let the burnt slices steal your focus.

Fishing

The waters may be uncertain, but nothing surfaces without action.

Erusha

We fish for answers to solve challenges. Sometimes the waters are full of options, other times only a few alternatives surface.

Potjie

Much like making a potjie, property transactions rely on different elements coming together in the right way.

Erusha

Just like a potjie, society thrives on variety. We need different people, skills, and services to create something nourishing.

Every doorway leads to new possibilities.

Understanding grows when we choose to listen.

Service Delivery

Service is love in action. Purpose is found in serving others. Every act of service is an act of love.

Seller & Purchaser

Salt and Pepper… Seller and Purchaser. The ideal match… one simply doesn’t exist without the other.

Woman

We grapple with good and evil, and at times it feels as though darkness has prevailed. Yet keep watching – evil carries within it the seeds of its own destruction.

Man

Black and white are a perfect pair. Black finds its sophistication beside white, while white shines with distinction against the boldness of black.

Partnership

Partnership is the crown of true power. What feels heavy today becomes wisdom tomorrow. The beauty of life is found where differences walk side by side.
